New Growth

Dear Friends,

Eight years ago, I was having a bad day.

It was not a tragic day. Just a bad day. Just the “I am tired and what is the point of all this” kind of day. I looked at my calendar and realized I had scheduled a lunch with a young man in Washington DC. Months earlier when I made the lunch plans, the expectation was that maybe God would open some new doors for ministry in DC.

But when the time came for the appointment, I was not feeling as excited. I headed down to DC, got lost, had a nice lunch and conversation, but no real ministry came out of it. Kind of what I expected from my bad day. But here is the fun part.

Back in early November soon after starting Leadline, I got a phone call from my long-ago lunch appointment. His church had been talking about what relational evangelism could look like in our increasingly secular culture. He remembered some of what we talked about over lunch, and some of the things I had been doing, and wanted me to come down and speak to a group of their leaders in March. A few weeks ago, I drove down, met with some of the leaders, and we outlined what looks like an exciting seminar.

Turns out, 8 years ago, it was not such a bad day after all.

This is a small example of what is proving to be an exciting trend since starting Leadline. Since November, in addition to the above story, I have had several exciting new opportunities. Here are a few of them:

  • Leadline hosted three Faith and Field Forums where local college athletes and coaches shared their faith stories. It was a great chance for over 40 men to be exposed to the Gospel.

  • I spoke at a local university on the importance of relationships with God and others.

  • I have helped lead a men’s Bible study to the residents at the Helping Up Mission.

Leadline is new. But my ministry and presence in this community is not. I have had a lot of lunches like the one above over the last 30 years of ministry here. It turns out when a new thing hits old soil, fresh growth can happen.

Of course, the new and the old would not be possible without you. Thanks again for your faithful support. God continues to make all things new through you!

God bless,

The Donohues
